Well, a bunch of the kids in the hardcore punk scene just went apeshit over that. Apparently in all that rebelling against their parents and “the system” and Ronald Reagan and all those other things ’80s hardcore bands were always going on about, the one thing they’d totally missed from their old lives was having someone tell them what not to do. They immediately all went out and got the letter X (universal symbol for straight edge, underage kids, and buried treasure) tattooed on the backs of their hands, because when you’re really hardcore it’s imperative that everyone you ever encounter knows exactly what you believe in the instant they meet you.
